Gallbladder Ultrasound Screening (Abdominal Ultrasound)

A gallbladder ultrasound is a painless, non-invasive scan used to check the gallbladder and surrounding organs (liver, bile ducts, pancreas).

It helps detect:

• Gallstones

• Gallbladder inflammation (cholecystitis)

• Bile duct blockage / dilation

• Gallbladder polyps

• Fatty liver (often seen together)

Fasting Requirement:

✅ Yes, fasting is needed.

• Fast for 6–8 hours before the scan.

• No food or milk.

• Plain water is allowed (and encouraged).

• Extra notes (useful for patients).

If your appointment is in the morning: fast from midnight.

If in the afternoon: a light early breakfast is sometimes allowed (only if your center permits), then fast 6–8 hours after.

Continue medications with plain water unless advised otherwise.
